Buckle up your boots, Angel Fire lovers, because big things are happening! Angel Fire Resort just announced an exciting two-year project to expand its lift fleet, promising better skiing and riding, shorter lift lines, and even more reasons to call this stunning corner of New Mexico home.

Whether you’re a seasoned skier/snowboarder, a weekend warrior, or someone who simply loves crisp mountain air and dreamy après-ski vibes, this news has something exciting for everyone.

Let’s dive into all the details about what’s coming and why it matters to our community and local real estate.

Meet the New Lifts: A Blast from the Past and a Glimpse into the Future

Angel Fire is starting its expansion this summer by adding a fixed grip quad lift on the back side of the mountain, connecting the base of the Southwest Flyer directly to the bottom of Lift 3. If you’re thinking this route sounds familiar, you’re absolutely right! Long-time locals might recall the old Riblet double known as Lift 6, which served skiers from 1966 until 1998. Talk about a ski-season throwback!

The new lift, built by the experts at Leitner-Poma, will travel approximately 3,400 feet, climbing around 950 feet in elevation. This lift is perfectly positioned to provide direct access to The Steeps, a favorite area for adrenaline junkies seeking fresh powder. The quad will be up and running for the winter of 2025-2026.

But wait, there’s more! By the following winter (2026-27), Angel Fire will introduce New Mexico’s first detachable six-pack lift. If ski jargon isn’t your thing, a six-pack is a high-speed lift with chairs comfortably seating six skiers or snowboarders, whisking everyone up the mountain quickly and smoothly.

This major lift, also designed by Leitner-Poma, will replace Lift 2 but extend along a much longer route, spanning an impressive 5,268 feet from the main base area to mid-mountain. It will significantly enhance access to beginner and intermediate terrain. Construction begins in April and will span two summers.

As thrilling as these upgrades are, the lifts don’t yet have official names. Maybe a friendly community naming contest is in order?

Après-Ski Dreams: More Lifts, More Fun, More Everything

Improved mountain access doesn’t just mean better skiing. It means transforming the whole Angel Fire experience. Shorter lift lines and new terrain will likely attract more visitors, paving the way for expanded amenities we all adore. Picture cozy new coffee shops, lively après-ski restaurants, and perhaps new boutique shops lining our charming streets. New lifts could even inspire more community events, concerts, and festivals, turning Angel Fire into an even livelier winter destination.

Who wouldn’t enjoy more après-ski options, leisurely hot chocolates by the fire, and vibrant community gatherings?

Real Estate Ripple Effect: Good News for Homeowners and Investors

Exciting resort upgrades aren’t just great news for your skiing experience. They’re also fantastic news for the real estate market in Angel Fire. Ski resorts making substantial improvements typically see increased property values, heightened buyer interest, and a surge in new development projects.

Here’s what that could mean for you:

Increased Home Values

Homes, condos, and townhouses near resort amenities often appreciate faster. Properties near the resort or even just conveniently close to shuttle routes may see an increase in value.

New Developments on the Horizon

Better skiing infrastructure attracts more visitors and residents, prompting new residential projects such as ski-in/ski-out homes, luxury cabins, condos, and boutique lodging options. This could mean exciting new choices if you’ve been considering a mountain home.

Opportunities for Investors

If you’re looking at Angel Fire through an investor’s eyes, these lift improvements present significant opportunities. Ski-town properties are desirable short-term rentals offering robust returns. Expect demand for rentals to soar as skier visits increase.

Preserving Angel Fire’s Soul: Sustainable Growth Is Key

While we celebrate growth, preserving our mountain community’s laid-back charm and unique character remains vital. Angel Fire thrives by balancing authenticity with development. As these projects unfold, it’s essential for residents, businesses, and town officials to work together, ensuring our distinctive mountain culture remains intact. Thoughtful growth is always the best kind.
